Safe Search for your kids

In addition to being safe on social networks, let us not forget that the internet is full of malicious websites.  Google.com is the most popular search engine in the world and is used by millions of people every day, most likely including you and your children.  Without proper filtering, it becomes very easy to find illicit material through search engines like Google.

Fortunately, Google has provided multiple ways to safely filter your child's search results.  Click here to check it out: http://www.safesearchkids.com/google.html

Safe Search for Kids Tips

  • Implement the use of Google Kids by bookmarking it for your kids to use whenever they search online.

  • Do not replace parental supervision with this safe search engine.
  • A good rule of thumb is to not allow internet use when a child is home alone.
  • Keep your computer in an open area, or if it's in an office.  Make a rule that doors are always left open when online.
  • It's not a good idea to put computers or laptops in your kids' bedrooms unless they are close to the main area of the house such as the kitchen or living room with doors left open.
  • Do not allow internet use after you've gone to bed at night.
  • Consider using a child filtering tool.  This program is safely installed in the registry of your computer.  Browsing history cannot be erased and reports are emailed to you about your computer's history weekly.
  • Have an open conversation with your kids about safe browsing.  With freedom comes responsibility.
