At Yoursphere for Parents we take pride in providing parents with information and advice on social networking and Internet safety. But as a resource that parents can turn to for advice on the movies, books, music and games that are appropriate (or not appropriate) for their children, I recommend looking no further than Common Sense Media.

Common Sense Media gives parents thorough insight into all different types of media, allowing them to determine if that game, that movie or that book is appropriate for their child. In each review, Common Sense gives a brief synopsis of the content, their recommended age, a star rating and a featured section called “What Parents Need to Know”, where they address both good and concerning things to be aware of.

There are also video reviews of the latest movies to hit the theatre or DVD. The same information is conveyed here: what the movie’s about, what audience it’s intended for and things parents should know.

A personal favorite, Common Sense Media offers parents and their children educational videos about Internet safety, cyberbullying and online privacy. As you can imagine, this information is extremely valuable, now more than ever, so I advise parents to take advantage of it. And if you’re looking for general advice, Common Sense offers advice videos on anything from managing your child’s diet to safe texting practices.
