None of these reasons were convincing for ME. I am on Facebook and nothing that people around me say corrupts MY English. Besides, smart people know what to do when nonsense comes about. The question is, are there smart people left?

Right on Mary! All three points get a resounding YES from me. You also mention "overwhelm by jargon". Parents can easily remove this overwhelm by focusing on ONLY the important pieces - technical or non-technical - to help guide their kids safely through the Internet. For example, I don't think its necessary for them to learn about cookies, but do think its important to learn how to remove geotagged information on photos. I have many other examples. The bottom line - parents do need to be involved in their kids Internet activities & learn the critical pieces to help keep them safe. Thanks for sharing with the community.
